THE WIND IN THE WILLOWS & ALICE IN WONDERLAND
performed by the Eight Cellos of Cellophony and narrated by Simon Callow
Kenneth Grahame’s The Wind in the Willows features a selection of unforgettable animal characters and, in common with Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland, is a children’s classic that retains a remarkable appeal for readers of all ages. These delightful new works by the composer and cellist Richard Birchall cover each of these stories in full, with extensive narration abridged from the books, and a variety of music for cello octet to illustrate and commentate on the action.
The contemporary but accessible musical language exploits the extraordinary range of sonorities and textures produced by the eight cellists of Cellophony: the composer himself, Matthijs Broersma, Pau Codina, Reinoud Ford, Ashok Klouda, Bart Lafollette, John Myerscough and Ella Rundle.
The incomparable Simon Callow, actor and frequent musical collaborator, is the narrator. He brings to life with spirit and aplomb the timeless characters of Ratty, Mole and Toad, Alice, the White Rabbit, the Cheshire Cat and the rest of the inhabitants of Wonderland.
Popular with concert audiences, these works are now recorded and released on CD for the first time.
